Well, the Model 7 is a featherweight rifle and the .300 Rem short ultra mag is roughly the same power level as the long-action .300WinMag (just a few fps less)...so yes, recoil is gonna be pretty stout compared to a standard weight magnum rifle or the Seven in a lighter caliber like .308.

My younger brother is looking for a compact deer and elk thumper and I thought one of these would be a decent pick (he's a smaller statured fella) thought a model 7 would fit him well.
